Ledger Live Login — Secure Access with Your Ledger Device
Ledger Live does not use a traditional username/password. Instead, access is granted through your physical Ledger hardware wallet and local confirmations. This guide walks you through the login steps and essential security practices.
Overview
Logging into Ledger Live means connecting your Ledger device (Nano X or Nano S Plus) and approving actions directly on the device. Ledger Live is an interface only — private keys remain inside the hardware wallet. The login process protects your assets by requiring physical device access and user confirmation for sensitive operations.
Step-by-step Login
1. Open Ledger Live
Launch the Ledger Live desktop app or open the mobile app. If you don’t have it installed yet, download it from the official onboarding page at ledger.com/start
.
2. Connect your Ledger device
Plug your Ledger into your computer via USB (or connect via Bluetooth if using Ledger Nano X with mobile). The app should detect your device and show a connection prompt.
3. Enter your PIN on the device
Enter the PIN directly on the Ledger device. The PIN entry is local to the device and is never sent to your computer. The physical screen and buttons guarantee that PIN entry remains private even if your host device is compromised.
4. Approve actions on the device
Ledger Live will request confirmations for viewing addresses and signing transactions. Always verify addresses and amounts shown on the Ledger device screen before approving. Approvals happen on the device — not in the app.
5. You're logged in
Once the device is unlocked and recognized, Ledger Live displays your accounts, balances, and transaction history. You can now prepare transactions; each send will still require on-device confirmation.
Optional: Passphrase (Advanced)
Ledger devices support an optional passphrase for creating hidden wallets. This is an advanced feature that provides extra privacy but must be used with care — losing the passphrase means losing access to the associated wallet. Only use this feature if you understand how to store the passphrase securely.
Security Best Practices
Follow these rules to keep your login and funds safe:
- Always download Ledger Live from ledger.com/start.
- Never share your 24-word recovery phrase. Ledger will never ask for it.
- Verify addresses on the device screen before approving transactions.
- Keep firmware and Ledger Live up to date to receive security patches.
- Beware of phishing sites and fake apps — type URLs manually or use bookmarks.
